Alexander (Alex) Mintz joins us from the Rockland Conservation Corps, AmeriCorps Program in Rockland County, NY. This program focused on conservation & service to the community and supported local environmental organizations such as the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, MEVO Fresh Roots Farm & the DEC’s Shoreline Stabilization project in Piermont, NY. He also worked as an intern at Rockland Green, Rockland Counties Solid Waste Management Authority. Mr. Mintz has a dual BA in Communication and Anthropology from the State University of New York Oswego in Oswego, NY. Alex has First Aid & CPR Training, Cornell Civic Ecology Lab and Nature Education certification, Chainsaw class A issues by NY/NJ Trail Conference.

Joshua  joins us from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) in Aspen Colorado where he taught environmental field and naturalist programs for all ages. The program locations were based in Aspen, Snowmass, and the Maroon Bells in the White River National Forest. Programs included leading snowshoe, and ski tours, as well as ‘Bird of Prey’ programs. 

During this period Joshua was promoted to a ‘Mentor Naturalist’ position. The position had responsibilities for training naturalists, handling program scheduling, and general administration. Prior to ACES, he taught fishing, backpacking, and canoe safety at the YMCA in Lake George. A native of Westchester, Joshua grew up in Scarsdale and went to the University of Vermont where he received a BS in Environmental Studies. He is certified by the American Red Cross in first aid, CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator) and is certified by the NAI (National Association for Interpretive Guides) as an Interpretive Guide. Joshua has Wilderness First Aid certification, Cornell Civic Ecology Lab and Nature Education certification, Chainsaw class A issues by NY/NJ Trail Conference.

Jack joins us after graduating from Boston College with a dual BA degree in Environmental Studies and Transformative Education. In his junior year, Jack studied Environmental Science for a semester at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, and surveyed some of Queensland’s rainforests. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout after several years of outdoor adventures, service missions, and frequent learning experiences at locations such as Westmoreland. Jack also has experience working with elementary school-aged children at the Bedford Road School as well as in Scouts where he served as the Troop Guide for many years. Growing up in Pleasantville, Jack enjoys all things outdoors including but not limited to hiking, camping, surfing, and mountain biking. He is an avid runner and a triathlete. At Westmoreland, Jack teaches about nature and wildlife.

Claudia joins us after graduating summa cum laude from William & Mary with a dual BS degree in Biology and Environmental Science. She also received the Whitney Mayer Award for Academic Excellence in Environmental Science for her top academic performance at William & Mary. As an undergraduate, Claudia studied larval salamanders in the Applied Conservation and Ecological Research lab for three years, where she honed her research skills and her interest in freshwater systems. She also studied Marine Conservation Ecology during a summer course at Friday Harbor, WA, and Wildlife Conservation and Care during another summer course in Australia. Claudia completed a postgraduate internship at Westmoreland Sanctuary, where she studied and supported the repopulation of threatened species, including the American elm, monarch butterfly, and the eastern box turtle, through habitat restoration efforts. In recognition of her valuable contributions and expertise, she has been invited to remain at Westmoreland Sanctuary to continue her work. She is passionate about caring for animals and volunteered with the local animal shelter in college and fostered a dog and cat during her senior year. In her free time, she loves running, skiing, art, and cooking.
