Here at Westmoreland, we strongly believe in student-led, experiential learning. Our outdoor, hands-on nature camps will foster a lasting curiosity and passion for nature in your child. Our campers learn about wildlife, environmental science, and develop a lifelong love for the outdoors.
All of our camps are run by our professional Naturalists and are kept to a 1:10 staff to camper ratio or less.

Nature Explorers (Suggested: 9am-12pm, ages 7-9; 9am-3pm, ages 10-14)
Explore the many wonders that nature has to offer! Our naturalists will encourage campers to follow their interests in wildlife, the outdoors, and the environment. This camp is perfect for curious free-thinkers and nature lovers.

Activities include:
- Animal adaptations
- Learn about how animals survive in the wild
- Touch Westmoreland’s live animals
- Pond ecology

- Catch tadpoles, minnows, caddisfly larvae, and more!
- Learn about the health of the Mianus River watershed
- Nature hikes
- Identify wildlife such as birds, salamanders, and frogs
- Explore the many habitats found throughout the Sanctuary
Conservation Camp (Suggested: Junior, ages 7-9; Advanced, ages 10-16)
The Sanctuary is buzzing with life! Join us as we learn about, interact with, and help protect wildlife and their habitat through educational games, experiments, and activities. Campers will receive an immersive experience through exploration of our forest and our many lakes, fields, wetlands, and vernal pools.

- Minnow & Crayfish Traps
- Learn how to catch and study aquatic life
- Identify species of fish, tadpoles, crayfish, and more
- Bird banding & identification
- Learn how to identify songbirds and birds of prey
- Participate in bird conservation study
- Forest plot survey
- Learn how to identify native trees and other common plants
- Understand the impact of invasive species on forest ecosystems
Survive the Wild (Suggested: ages 10 – 16)
Do your kids have a taste for adventure? Send them to Westmoreland to Survive the Wild! For those who love the outdoors, emergency preparedness and wilderness survival skills are essential. Our naturalists will teach campers how to navigate and understand our natural environment.
